Small Joys — bike & chill

Catch up time again

Day 227

Random # 476

Bike ride around a lake

We did three lakes! Lovely Saturday. Great weather and tons of tree shade. We went around lovely little Lake Mirror with colonnades and corgis, then Lake Morton with the swans, then Lake Hollingsworth which I asunder we wouldn’t do whole thing but we easily did. Fell in love with Lakeland in the process.

Small Joys — rest

Day 226

Random number 475

rest

Sean is here! We put up some cork boards and fixed the light above the stove. And I tidied a bunch before he got here. And we put away the things he brought.

Then he suggested laying down and reading. And it’s the BEST.

Small Joys — clouds

Day 225

Random number 34

admire the clouds

I actually pulled this one the day before, and while I looked at the clouds a few times while in the car, on Weds, I can’t say I admired them. So Thursday, I slowed down enough to enjoy the fluffiness. Lots of billowy clouds after several days of grayness (but surprisingly little rain).

Small Joys — catch up: handwriting and delight

Day 223

Random #: 184

Practice handwriting neatly

I had four birthday cards to send out. I can’t say I practiced… but I did make effort to be neater than usual. I’d intended to write more to make it practice, but I was tired and just happy to be getting some cards out.

Day 224

Random #: 353

delight - feel that tiny thrill - wish on a dandelion, marvel at a pigeon's feather, watch water spin down the plug. Revel and resist - joy emboldens hope, delight emboldens dreams

This prompt must be one I stole from Electra, who is utterly delightful. I didn’t make any special effort — hmmmm, that’s two days in a row I have said that — but I took my usual delight in things. I’m generally pretty good at that. I delighted in Peter’s enthusiasm and high (for him) spirits. And him planning ahead and taking a shower. I even wrote to Sean about all this.

I delighted in doing a video call this evening with Sean, each of us cooking. That was sweet. And resulted in a delightful meal.

I took delight in our new toaster oven which fits the space, costs $50 less than the last one, and isn’t dented. I also was delighted at how easy the return of the larger, more expensive and dented one was at the student center.

I took delight in the wee plumber who came to fix things that he said didn’t need fixing (worth it to be reassured!) and advised me on various projects and only charged me $49 for his time.

I am delighted to finish a couple long-lingering projects with Fidelity transfer and Flamingocon ticket link. Feel much more at ease about going back to work.

I was delighted to talk to a vision therapist and get an appointment for Peter. They believe his eye may be fixable and the therapy center is close to home. I’m so delighted Peter finally wants to do something about this.

Delightful to play games at BGA with Kathy and Keith.

Delighted to firm up plans with Gary & Celeste. And that I enforced boundaries that Sean had to do his part.

And spent a second delighting in how easy it is to keep a small home tidy.

It really turned out a delightful day!

Now delightfully going to bed early. With a book recommended by Kim’s delightful husband whose enthusiasm for sharing book series delighted me to no end.

Small Joys — drink with a friend

Day 222

Random number 329

Make a date for drinks with a friend

Getting together with Laura V from PBC. Known each other 20 years! She moved to Tampa area about 4 years ago. Tonight, we met at Fat Rabbit and caught up.

EXPERIMENT: condition hair every day

Experiment: condition hair every day

  1. shower
  2. condition hair
  3. photograph

I think my hair will look better if I do this for 7 days. I will document any issues with getting this done and how I resolved those issues.

RESULTS: I’ve learned I need an off day, and I’ve confirmed my hair looks lovely with better care. Imagine that!

I think I’ll start a new experiment where for a month, I condition my hair at least 6 times a week.

BACKUP:

Day one, Sunday (and wet still)

Day 2, Monday: I skipped. Ooops. No good reason, just kept doing other things.

photo anyway:

Day 3 - restarting the count of 7 days — conditioned but no photos

Day 4, Weds: Love how long my hair is. I’m getting my dye job done again once I do these 7 days.

Day 5, Thursday, looking good! No styling, just air drying. So three days in a row of conditioner plus A JVM air dry cream instead of gel. Hmmm! I like it! Making appointment soon for hair color.

then pinning up sides to make neater and to give the top some lift, it really looks better.

Friday:

Saturday

Sunday

Monday, I skipped again, so still not 7 days in a row.
